The Indian textile industry has a significant contribution to the national economy including in GPD as well as net foreign exchange earnings. The growth of this industry have a direct impact on the improvement of India’s economy.
Thus the Indian textile industry has been rehabilitated by offering facilities by the government to several sectors such as handlooms, jute, wool, and handicrafts. The government provides considerable incentives to the textile manufacturers and farmers of raw material to motivate and encourage them.
Reforms in the Sector
To give a boost to the sector, the government has entered memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 20 e-commerce companies to provide a platform to artisans and weavers to enable them sell their products directly to the customers. Besides, the centre has also entered several MoUs in the field of recreation facilities and for the introduction of new technologies in the sector such as textile parks.
In this particular sector, entry-level jobs are being offered in the apparel and garment industry. As textile designers one can work as a merchandise producer, product developer, quality control manager or work in technical services, testing, marketing, fashion designers, fashion journalism, and dye master/technicians.
In textile technology, raw materials such as wool, cotton, synthetics like nylon, acrylics are processed into yarn, thread, and fabric. The process also includes the development of new colors, textures, and properties such as fire resistance and water. Opportunities in the technology sector include entry level as well as first-line supervisor and manager. Supply Management shares a significant and essential portion of this grooming sector. The requirement of business graduates or MBAs with software skills is always up. Understanding of popular fashion trends will be an added advantage.
Like composer for music, similarly, designers are an artist of the textile sector as they create patterns and textures which will be incorporated in fabrics. Fine arts major with the knowledge of computer-aided design or CAD makes it one of the highest paying opportunities.
