Jaivani Bajaj, chief mentor, International College of Fashion, on the skills required to become a fashion entrepreneur

The Bachelor in business administration (BBA) in entrepreneurship, offered by the International College of Fashion (ICF), is one of the specialised courses in fashion entrepreneurship, which aims to capacitate young aspiring designers with skills to launch their own signature label. The programme aims at developing knowledge and skills in the fields of new product development, change management, innovation and leadership which are essential for those who aspire to make a career or explore entrepreneurial ventures or even return to a corporate setting with the necessary frameworks.

The first-half of the three-year industry integrated programme will introduce students to fashion business concept through a series of exploratory briefs covering brand, trends and promotion.

The other half of the programme encourages students to work in an independent manner through a series of individual projects which centre on managing a business, researching the global marketplace, making future predictions and managing a fashion event such as a live catwalk show. The programme also covers paid internships with designers and fashion brands.

Opportunities for entrepreneurs undertaking courses in fashion entrepreneurship range from launching their own business and going into freelance work. The global market awareness gained during the course period will allow students to work internationally in a large range of fashion, business and creative industries.
