More than 5.6 lakh aspirants appeared for the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) on April 8. The exam was held at 1,067 centres across the country for admission to nearly 9,618 undergraduate seats in 15 IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. The IIT-JEE 2012 was organised by IIT Delhi.
Around 74,493 students appeared for JEE 2012 at seven centres, which were Guntur, Hyderabad, Nellore, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal. According to officials at IIT Delhi, the number of girl candidates appearing for the exam has gone up significantly this year.
JEE was held in two parts with three papers in each part — chemistry, mathematics and physics. The test was held on an optical reader sheet. Also, for the first time, candidates were allowed to take home a copy of the optical reader sheet.
The IIT-JEE results will be declared on May 18.
