Engineering students from more than 10,000 technical colleges under the umbrella of AICTE will now have to undergo a training course to upgrade their social and communication skills in order to increase employability. AICTE recently partnered with TCS iON to offer an online course to acquire basic professional skills.
“Lack of soft skills contributes majorly to low employability of students in technical colleges. Basic professional etiquettes such as writing an email, engaging in corporate telephonic conversations and preparing for an interview are missing in most of the students. This is mainly because it is not taught in the classroom,” says Anil D Sahasrabudhe, chairman, AICTE.
The online course will help in bridging the gap while introducing the students to the required professional skillsets, adds Sahasrabudhe. “TCS recruits around 40,000 engineering graduates every year and research shows that most students lack diversity. The course has been prepared based on experience and feedback over the years to cultivate a highly qualified, competent, and proficient workforce,” he adds.
The 20-hour-long course consists of 11 modules on various professional competencies such as corporate etiquettes; effective email writing, group discussions, interpersonal skills, presentations and more. The course is available on the TCS iON Digital Learning Hub at https://learning.tcsionhub.in/courses/career-skills/, and can be accessed anytime on any device.
